I woke up this morning and turned on the news. The top story was the 8.9 earthquake in Northern Japan. I saw the footage of the tsunami waves destroying the countryside. It's absolutely unbelievable. I hope for the best for citizens in Japan. Let's all be thankful we're in good health this morning.

I'm currently in Mason, Ohio right now. It's my last day for this trip. I'll see some good friends tonight. Enjoy each other's company and make it a great day!

I just realized it has been a very long time since my last post. A lot has happened during this time. I'm not sure where to begin so I'll just call it a night. Haha! Sorry. Very exhausted. Hopefully, I'll post again soon.

It's a Monday and I'm in Warren, Michigan which is a surrounding town near Detroit. I am here on business. There are little things day to day that irritate me, but I should keep everything in perspective. I know you have heard this before, but we are lucky to wake up everyday to live life.

I was watching the local news here in Detroit, and I saw a story of a Detroit Police Officer who was killed in the line of duty. He responded to a house and a man shot the officer multiple times from the home eventually killing him. This reminded me of the three Pittsburgh Police Officers who were killed in the line of duty. I believe it happend in April of 2009. It was a similar situation. Officers responded to a call at a Pittsburgh home, when a man shot and killed the three of them from the house. I know police officers are everyday heroes, but this serves as a reminder of how brave police have to be to work in such a dangerous job. It's also a reminder of how lucky I am to still be alive. I have another chance to experience every facet of life. It's easy to forget the importance of living. We all have struggles, both personal and external.....hell....I struggled today. Even if we struggle, we have to see it through, and we must do our best to help ourselves and others. If I am having a terrible day in the future, I hope I read this entry. It'll give me some perspective to enjoy life.

Today was a good day. Much better than yesterday. I felt more productive at work, plus it was a beautiful April Tuesday. Lately, I have been stressed. This month is not shaping up the way I thought it would. I won't go into details. It will only make me more frustrated.

I guess I have to take the approach of not sweating the small stuff. It was good to hear from a long time college friend. That lifted my spirits.

Really not much to write in this entry. I just wanted to get back into the habit.

A New Year

It's been awhile since my last entry, but now is a better time than ever to start writing. The new year is here and I gladly welcome 2010. I know this will sound cliche, but I do feel like this could be a new beginning. I recently started a new position with Guide Book Publishing. I enjoy it and I hope to improve week by week.

Much has happened since my last entry. My dad had all of his toes amputated on his right foot. It's for the best. He became very sick because of a friction blister which didn't heal on his foot. He's diabetic as well. Since the surgery, his health has improved and he's 100 percent better. I am happy he's in good health and for the most part good spirits.

I do miss working in television. I'm not quite sure if I want to eventually get into the grind again. Perhaps that decision is for the distant future. As the saying goes, "time will tell."

I have talked with many friends lately who I haven't seen in quite some time. It's good to hear their voices. Not sure what I would do without them. All of you are very dear to me and you all know who you are.

I am currently in Detroit writing this entry. Farmington Hills to be more precise. The travel is nice. It's always good to see new places and meet new people. It's getting late so I think I'll get some sleep.

One Crazy Month

The month of August has definitely been one to remember. I left my old job at WTRF-TV in Wheeling and I found a new position with a Publishing Company, Guide Book Publishing to be exact. I'll be working as an Account Sales Representative. I have never done anything like this in my life, but I look at it as a new opportunity.

August started off great. Two good friends of mine got married at the start of the month. I am really happy for the both of them. I remember the first night they met at Miami almost four years ago. I can't believe how time goes by so fast. It was a great wedding and I'm glad I was a part of the celebration.

My dad just recently went into the hospital. His foot as been really bad. I won't go into the details, but he was not doing well when he was admitted a few days ago. He's looking much better now and hopefully he'll be able to come home soon. He gave my mom and me a bit of a scare this week with his health, but I'm glad to see his health improving. Obviously, those are the cliff notes for the month of August. Perhaps in due time I'll be able to go into more detail about all of these events. For now this will do until my next entry.

Remembering a Legend

This is a very sad day not only for the journalism field, but for our country. The legendary Walter Cronkite died at the age of 92. Cronkite retired before I was born and so my generation never saw him report the news on a daily basis. However, my parents told me he was one of the best when it came to telling a story, almost as if he were in the living room and was part of the family telling everyone the news of the day. He covered it all.....the assassinations of JFK, Martin Luther King, Watergate, and the Vietnam War to name a few. Cronkite was the historian for many milestone world events.

Lately, I have been extremely frustrated with the news business. There have been many layoffs and cutbacks at news affiliates nationwide. It seems massive amounts of content is preferred over good quality news. I think we're too caught up in how fast we can get something on the air as opposed to using creative ways to capture the viewer's attention. I have worked for a CBS affiliate in Wheeling, West Virginia the past 2 years. Recently, I resigned from my position as an anchor and a reporter. I truly enjoy the work in the news business, but I could not bring myself to walk through the doors everyday where issues of overtime and staffing trump what news we need to cover for the day. I have had one of my worst weeks both personally and professionally and I won't go into those matters. Just when I thought I couldn't stay in the news businesses any longer, Cronkite's death reminds me how important news is and it's a public duty to inform.

Everyone should take notes of Cronkite's career even if you're not in the news business. He reported stories with precision, thoroughness, and he was honest to the public. Those are qualities we should all try to emulate.
